State officials say they won't offer a response to the Trump administration's demand to strike down rules that protect transgender athletes.

For now.

Minnesota last month was given ten days to make the move, and the tenth day was Friday.

In a letter to Trump administration, the state's solicitor general wrote that there would be no substantive response because of a lack of clarity while the federal government is shut down.

The state was critical of the Title Nine investigation and the suggestion that Minnesota would lose federal funds if it didn't comply.

The White House said on Friday that President Trump remains committed to keeping men out of women's sports.

Nearly 200 Minnesota high school school board members signed a petition urging the state to comply.

But a group of Minnesota school board members and candidates came out Friday against attempts to exclude trans youth participation in athletics.

The issue came to a head last spring when Champlin Park's high school softball team won the state champion with a roster that included a dominant transgender pitcher.
