Another round of wintry weather is expected to drop up to six inches of snow in parts of the Twin Cities metro, with even more expected in southern Minnesota on Thursday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected through 8 a.m. Thursday which could make for some difficult road conditions.

"It's a fairly concentrated 8 hours of snow, it's not one of these long duration snow events that lasts two days," said WCCO Radio meteorologist Paul Douglas. "Most of the snow will be done by 1 or 2 this afternoon and it should taper off to flurries."

Douglas telling WCCO Radio's Vineeta Sawkar on Thursday morning he was confident in the three to six inches of snow expected to fall across the Twin Cities.

"A couple of spots in the eastern and southern suburbs could get six inches," he added.

A Winter Weather Advisory covers the Twin Cities along with several counties to the southwest. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of southern Minnesota, including the southeastern part of the state.

"It'll be a pretty heavy band and we're expecting snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the southern part of the state," said Jacob Beitlich with the National Weather Service Twin Cities. "We're going to get another few inches of fresh snow and then folks down around I-90 will see several inches of fresh snow."

Snow is expected to come to an end by Thursday afternoon.
