A woman has been charged with murder after the body of her young son was found by police in the trunk of a car late last week.
Julissa Thaler, 28, of Spring Park was charged on Monday with second-degree intentional of 6-year-old Eli Hart.
Hart's body was discovered on Friday morning by Mound police during a traffic stop. Originally, Orono police received a call about a car driving with a smashed out back window and on a tire rim. Police stopped Thaler's vehicle and noticed blood inside and a bullet hole in the backseat before discovering Hart's body inside the trunk.
Thaler was initially released from the scene, but was arrested a short time later at her apartment. Police found blood and other biological evidence in Thaler's hair and discovered more evidence of the boy's death inside a nearby gas station dumpster.
According to the criminal complain, Hart was shot up to nine times with a shotgun. The complaint states that Thaler recently learned how to use a gun after going to a local gun range.
A man was also arrested but has not been formally charged.
Thaler's expected to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
