Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara released a statement concerning the case of Tyre Nichols, who was apparently beaten to death by officers in Memphis following a traffic stop.

The five officers were fired and are charged with murder.

City leaders in Memphis plan to release video of the police stop that led to the death of the 29-year-old sometime after 6:00 p.m. Friday.

O'Hara says he supports the Memphis police chief's actions to dismiss the officers, adding that he condemns any criminal behavior by police.

O'Hara also says no statement, no criminal charge, and no verdict will heal the pain that's being felt by Tyre Nichols' family.

He says violent abuses of authority have no place in the law enforcement profession.

Here is O'Hara's complete statement:

“My heart breaks for the unimaginable loss that the family of Tyre Nichols has suffered. No statement, no criminal charge, no verdict will ever heal the pain Mr. Nichols’s family is feeling. I fully support Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis and her quick and decisive actions to terminate the officers involved in this terrible incident. While I honor and commend the men and women in uniform who serve all people every day with respect, I condemn any criminal behavior by police. The privilege to protect with courage and serve with compassion is sacred. Violent abuses of authority, such as displayed in this incident, have absolutely no place in our profession.”
