A new concert venue in North Minneapolis is expected to break ground soon.

Ground breaking for the 8,000 seat Upper Harbor Amphitheater initially scheduled for last September will now occur this spring.

That area's City Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw explained the delay.

"Getting everything lined up, permits and the construction and everything is just behind all together, and so I think finally we've made it to the top of the list to start," Vetaw said.

This new development will greatly impact the North Minneapolis community.

"Jobs is the main thing, right? Like, we need more of that," says Vetaw. "We need more people in the community to have opportunities to go over and work there. And this would be one of the places they could work on, to ensure that they have a full-time job working at stadiums, and that could be like production teams, food."

Built along the Mississippi River off of Dowling Avenue North and Interstate 94, the Upper Harbor Amphitheater will generate many jobs for the community while bringing in a variety of acts.

"There's gonna be a range of things, right? I'd love some of our local arts, creatives to perform over there," Vetaw adds. "And I would also love, like, big celebrities to perform over there."

The amphitheater is expected to open in 2027. It will also include a 20-acre riverfront park, affordable rental and ownership housing for current residents, 300 living wage jobs, and a Health and Wellness Hub.
