The historic St. Paul hotel has a new ownership group.
The man who owns the Minnesota Wild hockey team is the lead man in the purchase.
Craig Leipold is joined by real estate developers Jim Kelly, Carl Kaeding, and David Williams in the deal for property assessed at more than $17 million.
The group plans massive renovations to the hotel, which first opened in downtown St. Paul along Rice Park in 1910.
The famous hotel operated for 69 years until closing because of low occupancy before reopening in 1982. It has famously played host to gangsters and presidents — JFK stayed there.
The hotel also operates the iconic St. Paul Grill
The most recent owner of the hotel was Traveler's Insurance, and is operated by the Preferred Hotels and Resorts group.
