A light rail train collided with a vehicle that was on the tracks yesterday afternoon in Saint Paul, killing one person and sending another to the hospital.
Metro Transit officials say the train was eastbound on the Green Line when it struck the vehicle near the Rice Street station, a few blocks west of the state capitol building.
It's not known how the vehicle got onto the tracks, or why it didn't move when the train approached.
The person who survived the crash is in Regions Hospital in critical condition.
No one on board the train was hurt, with the train's operator taken to Regions for a medical evaluation.
