A police officer in the south-central Minnesota town of Olivia shot and killed an armed person during an "altercation" early Sunday morning.
Authorities say an officer from the Olivia Police Department was confronted by a person who had a weapon around 2:20 a.m. in an alley near the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue.
Following what's being called an "altercation", the officer ended up shooting the person.
The person who was shot was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting, and the officer involved in the incident is on standard administrative leave.
