A 14-year old is dead, and a 13-year old in critical condition after a crash in St. Paul Tuesday morning.
Police say the two were riding on a motorized scooter near Ohio and George Streets on the north side of the city. They believe the teenagers may have run a stop sign and were hit by a pick-up truck.
They say the 14-year old, who was driving the scooter, died at the hospital. The 13-year old is listed as critical.
Officers say the truck driver is cooperating with investigators and showed no signs of impairment.
In both Minneapolis and St. Paul, motorized scooter laws generally align with state regulations which treats scooters as bicycles. The scooters can operate on streets and bike paths but not generally on sidewalks. Operators must follow traffic laws, including stop signs, and those under 18 need to wear helmets.
