It's that time of year when people seem to get sick more often.

State health department officials say Covid-19, Influenza, and RSV cases are on the rise in Minnesota.

"You're correct in that we have seen maybe a more dramatic increase of RSV, and particularly in the last week or two influenza is really stepping up," explains Epidemiologist Karen Martin. "So we're expecting a pretty high activity in the next few weeks for respiratory illness."

However, this is not unusual this time of year according to Martin.

"All these diseases are seasonal, even COVID-19 is somewhat seasonal in that we do tend to see more of it in the colder months," she says.

Vaccinations, washing hands, and wearing masks are the best ways to prevent these illnesses.

"The vaccine is just a tool," Martin says. "It may not prevent everyone from getting sick, but it's very good at preventing severe illness and even death, especially in those who are are at higher risk for complications from respiratory illness."

And they do recommend, if you are sick, stay home.
