Police in Maplewood are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.
It happened around 4:30 Friday morning in the 2300 block of Maryland Avenue East, near Lakewood Drive.
There, police found a 31-year old male in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
46-year-old Jose Hernandez-Pineda was arrested in Sleepy Eye and was booked into Ramsey County Jail for criminal vehicular homicide.
Investigators say a witness reported seeing a large conversion van with a ladder rack near the victim before it fled. They were able to obtain nearby surveillance video which captured the incident and the vehicle involved.
The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting Maplewood in the investigation.
