The courtyard in front of the downtown Minneapolis federal courthouse was filled with native music, dance, prayer, and ceremonial incense.

About two-dozen took part in the demonstration, calling for federal prosecutors to drop charges against Isa Lopez.

She was arrested in June during a protest against a federal law enforcement raid of a Lake Street restautant.

Some said the felony assault charges were a scare tactic against people who are against the Trump administration immigration policy.

“Isa is one of our own,” said Serchikoya Samuel, one of the many who took part in several dances while  dressed in native attire. “We are here to stand in support and solidarity. We will not stand idly by as her voice is silenced.”

Lopez was taken to the Sherburne County jail after the arrest, and has refused a plea deal.

She was scheduled to go to court on Monday, but the hearing was pushed ahead to November.

That’s also when her trial is scheduled to be held.

“Especially for women, who have been oppressed so many ways,” said Elba Castillo.

She then raised her voice, the sound echoing off the tall buildings on either side of the courtyard.

“We need to be loud and clear,” she said. “We have always been here. We are here and we will always be here.”

ICE officials said the June 3rd operation was Minnesota’s first under the president’s Homeland Security Task Force.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey confirmed that there were no arrests in that action by federal agents.
