Rain continues to fall in the Twin Cities metro, and we're expected to keep getting rainfall until it starts to let up early Saturday morning.

National Weather Service forecaster Melissa Dye says we're going to get up to another inch of rain before it ends

"There is a surface low to our south moving across Iowa, and also the reason we have more easterly winds," she said.

The rain is expected to be heavy at times all day Friday.

"Things should start to diminish, especially in The Cities, sometime after midnight, maybe closer to 4:00 a.m.," said Dye. "Heading into Saturday, we should be done with any rain by the afternoon."

The current rain system is expected to bring the Twin Cities close to the average amount of rainfall for the first two months of October.

Despite that, the region is still about four inches of rain behind the average for the year.
