It began raining Saturday morning in downtown Minneapolis and a good portion of the state is expected to get the much-needed moisture during the weekend.
But it won't break the drought.
Minnesota DNR senior climatologist Dr. Kenny Blumenfeld tells WCCO's Paul Douglas that any rain is helpful, we won't fully recover from the drought conditions for another six months to a year.
"If we don't get turned around by a record-breaking rainfall for months and months and months, then I do think it'll be a pretty long recovery," said Dr. Blumenfeld.
"It took us a while to get in, so we should expect it would take us a while to get out."
Dr. Blumenfeld says a steady diet of moderate rain is ideal to ease out of the drought, but he also notes those weather conditions don't happen too often in Minnesota.
