The Ramsey County Fair returns this week after a six-year hiatus.

The historic 107th edition of the fiar kicks off its four-day run on Thursday with free admission, offering a mix of agricultural education, carnival rides, and live entertainment. The highly anticipated celebration was put on hiatus by pandemic disruptions and county coordination planning.

Ramsey County Fair Board President Ron Suiter says they are ready for this week's heat, with some new options to keep attendees cool.

"I've got a whole new set of canopies that we're going to put over a lot of the picnic tables," he says. "And we're going to have two misters coming in to do the misting like at the state fair. So I'll cool people off and basically we're just going to make sure everyone has plenty of liquids."

The fair boasts multi-cultural performances, and agricultural displays, embracing the diversity of the state's second most populous county.

Suiter says he hopes their offerings of Tex-Mex music, traditional Hmong and Peruvian dancers, and a mobile dairy classroom will bring the crowds back this year.

"This is a small county fair that teaches urban kids a little bit about what's going on around us," Suiter explains. "That's the main reason for it. But it's also time to get together with people from the neighborhood."

The event will wrap up on Sunday evening following a regional talent show, where the winning participants will find out if they qualify to advance to the Minnesota State Fair.

He says while parking will cost $10, but gate admission remains free.
