The scramble for REAL ID is on. And the wait? It can be long. Beginning May 7th, anyone flying domestically must have a REAL ID and that has led to a lot of extra work at the DMV.
As you can expect, most DMV's have been chaotic with people trying to beat the deadline.
"Three hours," says Jeremiah who was at Hennepin County Government Center Friday.
And the process? At times frustrating.
"It can be very frustrating. They weren't very clear about what you'd need," another person said.
At least most came prepared. Some had books. Others?
"I just like the people watching. And drank my tea. Stay relaxed everybody."
Despite the chaos, some offered key advice on how to expedite the suffering.
"I got an appointment before coming. Very important," says one woman.
Those appointments help - but they're not a cure-all.
"I don't have to wait in that long line, I can just go in and check-in. But I still have to wait for the service," says anther.
That's better than waiting for three hours. For others, it's been a nightmare due to not having proper documentation with warnings from the check-in desk that they may not even get to you that day.
They are warning people: regardless if you've made an appointment or not, come prepared because the wait may be a couple hours.
