The Federal Election Commission on Friday unanimously tossed out a complaint against Rep. Ilhan Omar that alleged she improperly used campaign funds on her now-husband's political consulting firm.
The 6-0 decision by the FEC comes after Virginia-based National Legal and Policy Center raised questions about $369,000 paid too Tim Mynett's E Street Group for personal travel expenses between August 2018 and September 2019.
The complaint came as a result of a divorce filing from Mynett's wife in 2019, who accused him of having an affair with Omar, which they both denied publicly.
Omar announced her marriage to Mynett in March 2020 and later severed her tires with E Street Group.
In their decision, the FEC wrote there was no reason to find that Rep. Omar "knowingly and willfully" violet federal law. The filing also cleared Omar's treasurer, Kate Wittenstein, of any wrongdoing.
In a tweet on Friday, Omar wrote, "Vindicated, but the damage is done."
