Friday at noon, Minnesota Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Angie Craig will visit the Whipple Building, which is the headquarters and a detention center for ICE during Operation Metro Surge.
This is the second time the two congresswomen have tried to conduct an oversight visit to the facility.
The two were blocked last month, but 3rd District Congresswoman Kelly Morrison did manage to conduct a review of the facility separately.
"There were people in leg shackles, cold cement floors, no beds, no blankets," Morrison described at the time. "They did have showers but told me that no one had ever taken a shower."
Homeland Security says Omar and Craig did not give a required seven-day notice for their visit last month.
However, last Friday a U.S. District Court Judge issued a temporary restraining order against ICE after detainees claimed their constitutional rights were being violated at the Whipple Building.
There's been concern from Congress about oversight at the facilities, especially for detainees that need medical attention.
"There were no medical protocols at all," Morrison said of her visit. "They couldn't answer basic questions that I had, 'how many people are currently being detained?'"
