Finstad won his seat during a special election in August after his predecessor Jim Hagedorn passed away earlier this year.

In August, Finstad beat his primary opponent, Democratic challenger Jeff Ettinger, in a close race and again on Tuesday night.

Hagedorn had held the seat since 2019, taking over, for now, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Before serving in the position, Finstad had served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009 and as the Director of USDA Rural Development for Minnesota from 2017 to 2021.
