Uber and Lyft Drivers demand better conditions at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's rideshare queue lot.

Drivers who say they sometimes wait hours in the ride sharing lot outside the airport waiting to pick up passengers spoke out at a recent Metropolitan Airports Commission meeting to demand better conditions.

Local SEIU organizer Kevin Whelan explains.

"Right now it has just a few porta-potties that are often dirty," says Whelan. "There's no running water, no indoor bathroom facilities, nor any place to wait or pray, for people that pray outside. So what folks are asking for is just facilities in the waiting area that are indoors."

The Metropolitan Airports Commission said in a statement it has expanded the rideshare pickup area and has doubled the number of portable restrooms in the waiting lot.

"One thing the drivers want to do while they're waiting, many are Muslim and pray five times a day, kneeling on the ground," Whelan explains. "Right now they have to do that in the snow, or the rain, or the heat, and so it's one reason people would like some indoor space."

The Metropolitan Airports Commission also added they're committed to using new technology to further reduce wait times for drivers.
