A Robbinsdale City Council member was charged Tuesday following a drunk driving related incident that included a brief police pursuit and crash early Monday morning.
Tyler Kline, 38, of Robbinsdale faces one count of fleeing a peace officer, one court of driving while under the influence, and another count of driving while under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Tuesday that officers were alerted to an accident caused by Kline, who was driving the wrong way near Highway 100 at Brooklyn Boulevard shortly after midnight on Monday.
Kline fled the scene and continued the wrong way inside his minivan along Highway 100. A Crystal police officer attempted to block Kline's van using a squad car, however he was able to drive around the patrol car and later avoided another attempt to stop his vehicle.
Police finally stopped the minivan by driving into it with a squad car and had to by physically taken out of the driver's seat after ignoring several commands to exit.
A breath sample showed Kline's blood alcohol concentration to be .20, more than twice the legal limit of .08.
He is schedule to appear in court Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Kline was elected to the Ward 1 seat in 2021.
