Brit's Pub in downtown Minneapolis has been the scene of raucous international watch parties, from World Cup soccer matches to royal weddings.

It was just as important for many to get together early Saturday morning in a British atmosphere to watch together as King Charles was crowned during an elaborate and deeply historic ceremony.

But this time, the mood was more somber.

A few dressed for the occasion with their finest jewelry and splendid hats.

Most took in the ceremony as if they were there with the thousands of special guests at Westminster Abbey.

"The British family has been near and dear to me my whole life," said Karen Hasegawa, who lives in Woodbury but was born and raised a royal subject in Canada. "To see the coronation in a British-type atmosphere with my friend, Katherine, was too thrilling to not do."

Katherine Upson was glad her friend was there.

"Just having my friend explain it to me, it's been a thrill," she said, Karen blushing at the compliment. "Just the adventure we're having."

Curiosity got the best of Kathy Madson of Burnsville, who had no connection to England but wanted to see history in a unique setting.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing to see, it was just fun, something special to do," she said, despite lamenting that getting up at 3:00 a.m. was part of the experience.

Was it worth it?

"It is!"
