Two people are dead following a suspected murder-suicide Saturday morning in St. Paul.

Saint Paul Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of Montana Avenue East at 8:30 a.m. and found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman died at Regions Hospital.

Investigators believe the man shot the woman before taking his own life.

Natalie Davis, a Public Information Officer with Saint Paul Police, says the incident continues a disturbing trend in the City of St. Paul, where eight homicides have occurred this year.

"Four of the eight homicides this year in St. Paul are domestic-related," Davis said. "Obviously one is too many."

Davis said they encourage anyone experiencing domestic-violence, whether it's in St. Paul, Ramsey County, or beyond to never be afraid to speak up, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The St. Paul and Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project is available 24-hours a day, seven-days a week.

The crisis line can be reached at 651-645-2824 or toll-free at 888-575-3367.

"Everybody is impacted by this. It's a devastating tragedy for everyone," Davis said. "For the victims' loved ones, families, neighbors, and community. It's devastating for the first responders that have to respond and help people at these calls."

In a press release, police stated that a shotgun and a handgun were recovered at the scene.

Investigators will be working with the Ramsey County medical examiner, who will conduct an autopsy on the man and the woman, to positively identify them and determine their exact causes of death.
