Earlier this week long-time KARE-11 producer Andy Trowbridge lost his battle with cancer at the age of 35, leaving the station and community hurting from the loss.
KARE-11 reporter and anchor Rena Sarigianopoulos joined News Talk 830 WCCO’s Adam Carter to discuss Trowbidge’s life and the impact he had on not only the station but also his community.
Sarigianopoulos shared that the loss of her friend and colleague was a “gut punch” as she says he was “just the kindest human being.”
“Andy’s been there for a long, long time. He’s one of those guys that the general public doesn’t get to know because he’s behind the scenes, but he’s really the guy that kept everything together in the sports department,” Sarigianopoulos said.
Sarigianopoulos shared that it’s hard to conceptualize Trowbridge being gone, as he had just talked with her and other colleagues after he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night for treatment.
“He was young, diagnosed with cancer, and then in a day, he was gone,” Sarigianopoulos said. “Literally gone.”
The death of Trowbridge had “rocked” KARE-11 as Sarigianopoulos shared that she couldn’t believe it when someone called to tell her of his passing.
“What a great human being he was. God, I just hope that his mom knows that. I hope she knows how much he was liked and respected at our station,” Sarigianopoulos said, while fighting back tears.
