The Scott County canvassing board is scheduled to meet Wednesday to certify votes from last week's election, including the race between incumbent House member Brad Tabke (DFL) and Republican challenger Aaron Paul in District 54A.
Final vote totals shows Tabke 14 votes ahead after the original results had Paul with the win.
Scott County elections manager Julie Hanson says there was a scanner jam that led to two different results.
"It took us about seven hours to go through and rescan all of those ballots," says Hanson. "But I have, of course, taken the time after that to ensure that we are exactly at the numbers that we were expecting. We have arrived at exactly where we thought we should be. And that is why we do these post-election audits."
There's already a recount scheduled in Sherburne County, where elections officials also blamed a computer glitch for contradicting results in the race between DFL House member Dan Wolgamott and Republican Sue Ek. Wolgamott holds a slight lead of just under 200 votes.
Results of both contested races could affect the balance of power in the Minnesota House, which now stands at 67 members for each party.
The Minnesota Senate will remain in DFL control. In District 45, Ann Johnson Stewart was elected to represent that district in a special election after it was vacated by Kelly Morrison, who ran and won the congressional seat being vacated by incumbent Dean Phillips.
