Gun violence rocking Minneapolis over the weekend, with not one, but two, mass shootings in less than 24 hours.
One person was fatally wounded and four others were shot Sunday night in the Steven Square neighborhood after nine people were wounded hours earlier outside Reign Event Center in Uptown.
Police say a 28-year-old man wounded at the scene later died at HCMC. The other four who were shot were suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
They are identified as man ages 43, 24, 36 and 26..
The Sunday night shooting happened south of Interstate 94 near downtown Minneapolis, while the nine wounded in the earlier shooting are all expected to recover.
"This was a brazen act of violence in a crowded entertainment district, where innocent people were placed at tremendous risk," said interim Minneapolis police chief Bill Peterson said of the Sunday morning shooting. "That is absolutely unacceptable."
The early Sunday morning shooting unfolded as a large crowd gathered outside the event center following a reported altercation. Investigators are looking into whether or not the gunfire came from a vehicle.
"This incident is an unthinkable, disgusting, and cowardly act," said Peterson.
The Sunday night shooting in Stevens Square happened around 8:20 p.m. near the 1900 block of Nicollet Avenue. There are no arrests reported in either incident.
The MPD reports that there are no indications that the two shooting incidents are related.
