With voting issues front and center for lawmakers, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon laid out his priorities for the legislative session on Monday.
Some of those priorities include restoration of rights for those who've been convicted of a felony, election worker protections and preregistration of 16 and 17-year olds. It also includes automatic voter registration.
Simon said it's all about access and security.
“Because people who would otherwise register on Game Day, on Election Day, will already have been in the system,” Simon told WCCO’s Susie Jones. “They will already have been filtered and screened and vetted before Election Day.”
Election safety and security of Minnesota's election system were among the top issues in discussed in November’s Secretary of State Election, with Simon fending off accusations by Kim Crockett (R) that there was fraud during the 2020 Election and calling for Election reforms.
Simon has said he wants to create more access for voters in Minnesota, even as the state regularly has some of the highest voter turnouts in the country.
