Minnesota's multimillion dollar emergency hub is now open.

Minnesota's new emergency operations center in Blaine was  built in part with funds allocated by the legislature in 2023.

Public safety commissioner Bob Jacobson says the facility's efficiency has already been proven after work began here on June 1, where it played a key role in the preparedness around the attacks on lawmakers later that month.

"And to think that this was the first opportunity to really use this location, this facility, as a starting point, for the state emergency operations center to help serve and solve a heinous crime," says Jacobson.

It is designed to be tornado and flood-proof, with a 72-hour backup power supply from solar and generators.

This months official opening coincides with National Emergency Management Awareness Month.
