It's a Minnesota State Fair past time, watching or listening to your favorite broadcast personalities do their shows live. That's especially true over the course of decades at WCCO Radio, where watching shows is a cherished and longtime tradition for many Minnesotans.
830 WCCO Radio host Sheletta Brundidge wants to make sure an overlooked and underserved group get a chance to participate this Saturday. She's making sure deaf and hard-of-hearing fairgoers don’t miss out on that highlight of their State Fair experience.
“I want to make sure everyone can join in on the laughs and all the fun we're having, whether they can hear me or not,” explained Brundidge, who shared the news Friday on the Chad Hartman Show.
In honor of September's annual designation as Deaf Awareness Month, Brundidge hired two ASL Sign Language interpreters for her weekly show on Saturday, Sept 5 between 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. The interpreters are coming from Keystone Interpreting Solutions.
“The State Fair does a great job making the Fair accessible for everyone; they have ASL interpreters ready to go," Brundidge said. "To tell the truth, I didn’t think of this and ask for one soon enough to reserve interpreters for my show, so I’m using profits from my media and marketing business to pay for this myself.”
You can find the WCCO booth near the corner of Underwood and Carnes on the State Fairgrounds, next to Sweet Martha's Cookies and the Minnesota Republican Party booth.
