Shooting leaves one dead in St. Paul's Lowertown neighborhood

A woman was killed in an early evening shooting Wednesday in St. Paul's Lowertown neighborhood, marking the city's 19th homicide of the year.

In a press release. St. Paul Police said officers were called at 5:18 p.m. to the 200 block of Kellogg Boulevard East on a report of someone having been shot. Officers found an adult female lying in an alley, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She died at the scene.

Thursday morning, St. Paul police officers were involved in a shooting in Belle Plaine, MN that they now confirm is connected to Wednesday's homicide. A suspect has died and police also confirm no officers were injured.

St. Paul Police spokesperson Mike Ernster tells WCCO Radio that they will hold a press conference later on Thursday to provide more information.

In a statement posted to Facebook Lowertown Lofts Artists Cooperative wrote, "This afternoon one of our members was shot and killed while working on an art project outside of our building. We don’t have a lot of information right now, but we are working closely with the authorities to resolve this tragic event. We ask that our friends and neighbors not speculate about the situation. Our community is in shock and grief as we grapple with the unimaginable."
