Minneapolis Police are asking for the public’s help after what is being described as an early morning crime spree Tuesday.
Police say six separate incidents of attempted burglaries including two carjackings took place near the Third Precinct police station resulting in two bystanders being shot.
One victim, a 54-year old man was struck in the face but suffered only minor injuries, while another 25-year old man was shot in the chest and is in life-threatening condition.
Chief Brian O’Hara called the incidents brazen.
"All of it is wrong for sure, but certainly, it generates a lot more fear in the community when it's just random like this," O'Hara said. "And that's why it's so important that we identify these people. So anybody who has information, please provide it."
Police say this is the first crime spree they've come across in Minneapolis this year.
O'Hara says the 54-year old man was inside his house and looked out the window to see what was happening when the group shot at him from across the street while breaking into a garage.
"Other than, you know, garages being targeted for burglaries, this does appear random," says O'Hara. "This does appear to be random crime spree. It's totally random that a man looking out of his window, to hear a noise, then gets shot in the face."
So far there have been no arrests. Police initiated their Crime Pattern Response Protocol dedicating all available resources not assigned to priority calls to locating the suspects or their vehicle.
