Snow to rain makes for a sloppy mess on Monday

Much of Minnesota is reacting to the aftermath of a winter storm that started out as all snow, but is making an impactful changeover.

There are reports of accumulation of five inches or more.

But the flurries are changing over to raindrops.

"A rapid changeover to rain," said WCCO chief meteorologist Paul Douglas. "Warmer air tangled up in this storm system should mean mostly rain today."

What's left behind is wet and heavy, leaving a sloppy mess on major roadways.

Getting rid of the snow is going to be difficult in neighborhoods across the state.

If you really need to shovel, take it easy and make sure to stop for breaks to avoid over-exertion.

This wintry mix is expected to continue into Tuesday, with sunshine returning on Wednesday.

Snow emergencies are in effect for several cities throughout the metro.

Minneapolis, St. Paul, Anoka, and Elk River are among those that are asking people to avoid parking on streets until they are plowed.

The state patrol is reporting 328 crashes on Minnesota highways Sunday during the snowstorm.

There were twenty20 spin-outs reported, and 10 semitrucks jackknifed on the slick pavement.
