Breaking news out of Edina Wednesday afternoon where there is a large police presence in the area of Southdale Center due to an active incident.
Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn spoke to the media and confirmed one person was killed, and that nobody was yet in custody.
"When officers arrived, they found one victim with a gunshot wound," Millburn said. "Despite life-saving measures, the victim died. The suspects ran away from the scene before officers arrived, and officers are still following up on leads."
Milburn also said they're asking that if anyone has any security footage, any surveillance, that they please reach out to the Edina Police Department. Milburn also confirmed they are looking for "more than one person."
Police are asking the public to avoid the area near West 66th Street and York Avenue South until further notice. WCCO's Ari Bergeron talked to a man who works nearby.
"All of a sudden we heard like three, four gunshots, looked outside, saw people running, cops pulling up super quick, probably less than like 5 minutes," said Don, who works at the Firestone next to Southdale. "Just looking over there, you can see like the white sheet covering the guy and a bunch of SWAT and CSI coming."
The shooting occurred at a 39-unit facility that supports permanent housing for young adults 18 to 24. It reportedly happened around noon.
According to one witness, he heard three shots and saw a body with someone performing CPR.
Most surrounding businesses were immediately put in lockdown, but that has since been lifted.
