Spring Lake Park's mayoral race appears to be headed for a coin flip after both candidates tied in Tuesday's election.
Incumbent mayor Robert Nelson received 1,401 votes - and so did challenger Halyn Roth.
"Just a lot of disbelief that a race like this could end up in a tie," says Spring Lake Park City Administrator Daniel Buchholtz.
As for what's next, Buchholtz says votes will be canvassed next Monday, and if there's no change?
"The canvassing board will determine a winner by lot, so we'll have a drawing or some other impartial game of chance to determine who the successful candidate is," Buchholtz explains.
The losing candidate will then have seven days to request a publicly funded recount. 12 votes were cast for write-in candidates.
"Every vote counts," notes Buchholtz.
