St. Paul Public Schools added its name to a long list of Minnesota districts requiring some form of mask wearing ahead of the upcoming school year.
Board members voted unanimously on Tuesday night to approve the district-wide mask mandate, which goes into effect on Wednesday. The mandate requires all people (ages 2 and older) in a school setting including teachers, parents, and visitors, wear masks regardless of vaccination status.
Minneapolis Public Schools adopted a similar mask mandate earlier this month for all students, staff, and visitors. Anoka-Hennepin Schools have not implemented masking requirements.
The state announced on Tuesday that COVID-19 testing will be offered to districts across the state. The Minnesota Department of Health, along with the CDC, is recommending weekly testing for unvaccinated children ad testing for vaccinated children who are showing symptoms.
St. Paul Superintendent Joe Gothard is scheduled to join WCCO Radio's Blois Olson Wednesday morning at 7:20 during the WCCO Radio Morning News.
