St. Paul police arrested a 27-year-old suspect who broke into a home and barricaded himself with the family still inside early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the 1100 block of White Bear Avenue around midnight on a report of a man firing a gun in the air. Officers heard shots when they arrived at the scene and then another 911 caller told authorities that the man had broken into their home, with several family members still on the main floor and in the basement.
Family members on the main floor were able to escape, but a group of people still in the basement were unable to get out. Eventually a SWAT team entered the home and rescued the rest of the family.
The suspect was taken into custody at that time and gun was recovered.
He's currently at the Ramsey County Jail awaiting charges.
