As COVID-19 cases continue to drop across Ramsey County, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter shared that he may lift the COVID-19 vaccine or test requirement as early as this week.

It has been almost a month since Carter and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey put their mandates in place, and now they could be heading out the door soon, Kare11 reported.

The mandates were instituted when COVID-19 cases were at an all-time high due to the omicron variant, but in recent weeks cases have come down from their peaks.

The mandate in St. Paul was only set up to be in place for 40 days. But now, Carter says he looks forward to dropping the mandate “as soon as possible.”

Minneapolis’ mandate does not have an expiration date, but Mayor Frey said it would be temporary when it was put in place on Jan. 19.
