As the number of COVID-19 infections rise, health officials are rolling out a new way to treat the disease. Starting Saturday, test-to-treat locations are opening throughout the state.

"This is a really a great program," said University of Minnesota, Infectious Disease Researcher, Dr. Michael Osterholm.

"I wish it was more widespread, but I congratulate the administration on getting these done now. It is important to get these drugs, particularly if you're at high risk of being hospitalized, having serious illness or dying, these drugs can make a big difference," he added.

The test-to-treat sites will offer FREE testing and medication. The Minnesota Department of Health says patients deemed high risk by a clinician will receive a prescription for Paxlvoid.

"For those trying to avoid serious illness, hospitalizations and death, Paxlvoid is a very important tool," said Dr. Osterholm.

The testing locations are in Brooklyn Park, Duluth, and Moorhead with additional sites planned for the future.
