Sue Zelickson, long time food reporter, radio host, philanthropist, and community pillar in the Twin Cities culinary scene has died. She was 91.
The Zelickson family confirmed to WCCO Radio Friday morning that she had passed away peacefully at home.
Zelickson was renown across the Twin Cities restaurant world. She spent over 50 years connecting chefs, empowering women, and raising money for charitable organizations.
For over 25 years, Zelickson was the host of "Food for Thought" on WCCO Radio, championing local chefs, restauranters, and philanthropy. She also wrote a column in Minnesota Monthly magazine, and authored 10 cookbooks.
She co-founded the Twin Cities' Academy Awards-style celebration to honor local hospitality workers, named after the legendary downtown establishment, Charlie’s Cafe Exceptionale. She was also a 2005 winner of a James Beard Award, and a member of the Pavek Museum's Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
In honor of her lifelong dedication to the community, Governor Tim Walz officially proclaimed September 13, 2024, as "Sue Zelickson Day" in Minnesota, timed with her milestone 90th birthday celebration.
The immediate family will be holding a private service.
