A ten-day stretch of work is slated to begin Monday night at Target Field Station in Minneapolis as Metro Transit looks to keep the busy area in good, working order.

According to Metro Transit spokesperson, Drew Kerr, the closure and construction is related to ongoing state of good repair work.

"We have equipment out there that routinely gets updated as part of our regular maintenance program," Kerr said. "This is another iteration of that."

Work, which is scheduled to wrap-up by Thursday, July 20 include replacing tracks and some of the equipment that allows trains to move from one side to the other.

"We believe this will lead to a station that's gonna be easier to maintain over time and operates more efficiently and effectively," added Kerr.

The work is happening while the Minnesota Twins are off due to the MLB All Star break. Target Field Station will be closed during the TC Summer Fest on July 14 and 15.

TC Summer Fest concertgoers can board or exit trains at the Warehouse/Hennepin Ave Station, about two blocks north of Target Field.

"It's always a balance because summer is when all the activities are happening and it's when all the construction is allowable," Kerr said. "We do look at the calendar and are very mindful especially for places like Target Field Station where it's the gateway to the North Loop. I don't think there's ever a perfect time to close the station."

Metro Transit is offering shuttles between Ramp B, just south of Target Field, and the Warehouse/Hennepin Ave Station after both night of concerts.
