The Minneapolis School District issued a statement following allegations that a teacher wore a Trump 2020 mask on the anniversary of the death of George Floyd.
"Recently, allegations have been raised about an MPS teacher wearing a Trump mask on the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. We take these allegations and their impact on students very seriously. MPS is investigating a complaint related to this allegation and the teacher is on leave. We want to be clear: Every student in our school deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
"Creating a welcoming, affirming culture is part of our ongoing work as a school district, including addressing bias, racism and micro-aggressions.
"Each of our students have inherent value, and race and ethnicity are important parts of who we are and how we experience the world."
The school urged anyone who felt uncomfortable with anything happening in a classroom to reach out their principal or associate superintendent.
The incident reportedly took place at Keewaydin Elementary School.
The incident is being investigated, school officials said without releasing any more information on what exactly happened in the classroom, identifying the teacher or giving background in terms of how long he had been teaching.
