Educators in both the Minneapolis and St. Paul School districts have voted to strike.
So far, neither school district has responded to the union votes.
In Minneapolis the vote was an overwhelming yes at almost 98 percent.
In St. Paul, 78 percent of those voting did so in the affirmative.
Members in both districts are demanding improved learning and working conditions, along with better pay.
A strike, if necessary, could only occur after a state-mandated 10 day cooling off period once announced.
Teachers unions and school district administrators in both Minneapolis and St. Paul say negotiations will continue to try to avert a walkout.
Minneapolis teachers haven't gone on strike since 1970.
St. Paul teachers walked off the job two years ago.
