A 14-year-old boy in custody for the shooting death of his younger brother appears in Ramsey County court, where his mother will ask for his release.
Denisha Hill is the mother of the two boys, says her older son has been struggling since his arrest, and that he needs to be with his family.
Hill said her older son crumpled to the floor the last time she saw him.
12-year-old Markee Jones was shot and killed early Saturday morning at a home on St. Paul's north end.
The home belongs to his aunt, Marilyn Hill, who believes the person who left the loaded gun in the house is the one responsible, not the young teenager.
"We need him to be accountable," she said. "That child is sitting up in jail, he's innocent, you can't accuse and charge a child for a mistake."
St. Paul police say they are talking to witnesses but have not released any more details about what led up to the shooting.
