Minnesota Senior US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D) is celebrating the passage of a new national hazing law she helped author.
In 2021, a former Eden Prairie high school student Danny Santulli suffered alcohol-induced brain damage while pledging a fraternity at the University of Missouri.
Klobuchar says his parents Mary Pat and Tom were major advocates for the new law requiring colleges to release information about fraternity hazing.
"In a way for them it's like reliving it every single time," says Klobuchar, "but without families and people that are willing to do it like these people we would have never got this bill passed."
Mary Pat Santulli says she hopes it’s the first step towards ending hazing for good.
"I'm so thankful that this is out there and got passed," says Santulli, " and that parents and students are going to be able to make educated decisions when sending their kids off to college."
The new law takes effect January 1st, but school's have until 2026 to gather and make the data public.
