There will be no strike by Minneapolis public school teachers after the union and administration announced a tentative agreement following several days of intense negotiations.

In a statement by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, officials say the pact focuses on smaller, enforceable class sizes, strong special education supports and caseload limits, and better pay for educators.

Minneapolis school administrators and union leaders will reveal details of the contract on Monday.

The agreement comes as the teachers had scheduled to go on strike on Tuesday.

That has been called off, and the teachers next will vote on ratification of the agreement.

The contract covers teachers, educational support professionals, and adult educators.

“I am excited that we have reached a tentative agreement with the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) that puts our students first and advances our shared values and goals,” said Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams. “We look forward to continued partnership with MFE as we collectively ensure MPS is the best place to learn and work.”

In a social media post by the union, officials sent out thanks to Minneapolis families, our labor allies and all members of the rank-and-file.
