Minnesotans are being warned to remove ice houses and use caution on thinning ice after several vehicles recently went through ice on Lake Minnetonka.
"Due to inclement weather this winter, local ice conditions are bad and getting worse. In the last few days, our Water Patrol has responded to multiple calls for ATVs and snowmobiles that have gone through the ice on Lake Minnetonka," the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office tweeted Wednesday.
The end of the day on March 6 is the mandatory removal date but the sheriff's office recommends angles remove their ice houses sooner than that.
Owners can be fined by the Minnesota DNR if their vehicles or ice houses are not removed from the ice within a reasonable timeframe.
