Police in Minneapolis are investigating after yet another body was found in a public area, marking the third time such a discovery has been made in the past three days.
University of Minnesota police responded to a report Monday afternoon of a body of a man that was found in the area of 6th Avenue Southeast and Southeast Main Street near the Stone Arch Bridge.
On Sunday morning, Minneapolis Park Police along with the Minneapolis Police Department began an investigation after a body was found on the shoreline of Bde Maka Ska.
Investigators say the individual was already deceased when responders arrived around 11:40 in the morning near West 36th Street and East Bde Maka Ska Parkway, adding the person likely had been dead for some time.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation, and Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt says it's too early to say what's behind this odd string of bodies that have been found in the city.
"We always will keep in close communication with, say, our park police, as well as our local police, Minneapolis, and then the sheriff's office," Witt says. "We work so well together. I'm not sure if park police have ramped up their numbers at the parks, but again, we're paying attention to all of this."
Witt says causes of death have not been determined in any of those cases, and tells WCCO's Jordana Green they're keeping a close eye on any developments related these.
"There's a lot still to be done, and we don't want to cause any unnecessary alarms," adds Witt. "So yes, this is very serious, and we do need to make sure that we're doing everything we can to see what the primary cause of death was. Was it related to drowning or was it something else?"
And that incident came less than 24 hours after a body was found in a wooded area near East River Parkway and Oak Street near the Mississippi River.
None of the incidents appear to be related. Few details have been released about those cases.
