On Monday, two men were sentenced for carjacking a woman in the Rosedale Mall parking lot in February of last year, according to authorities.

US Attorney Andrew M. Luger shared that 49-year-old Leon Bell and 23-year-old Jack Piche have pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting carjacking.

Bell has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for the armed carjacking, and Piche has been sentenced to 40 months. Both sentences also carry three years of supervised release.

Court documents shared that on Feb. 16, 2022, the two men were following a vehicle as it looked for a parking sopt at the Roseville mall. After it parked, the two men took the car by means of force.

After parking and exiting the vehicle, the two men approached the victim, and with Piche playing the role of lookout, Bell “went up to the victim, brandished a gun, and demanded her car keys,” the court documents shared.

The two men fled the parking lot before police arrived and after also taking the woman’s purse that had her keys, phone, and wallet inside.

A few blocks away from the incident, police recovered the vehicle and arrested Piche, and on May 3, 2022, law enforcement was able to locate Bell and arrest him.

Both men will now face their prison sentences almost a year after the carjacking took place.
