The United States US gymnastics trials for the 2024 Olymplics are coming to Minneapolis.
It was announced Tuesday morning at Target Center that the event will take place June 27-30 at the downtown Minneapolis arena.
Two days of competition for both men and women will take place to fill out the American team that'll head to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
There will be five men and five women named to team USA for the trip to France.
Gov. Walz was accompanied by Olympic gold medalist and St. Paul native Suni Lee in making the announcement.
Ticket sales are expected to start soon.
The event drew record crowds to the trials in 2021 that took place in St. Louis, which also was among the bidding cities for the upcoming meet.
Omaha also put in a bid.
The non-profit Minnesota Sports and Events, which has drawn a number of major sports competitions to the Twin Cities, led the local effort.
Lee is already training to return to the Olympics, according to her father, who appeared on the WCCO Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar.
John Lee said bringing the US gymnastics trials to the Twin Cities is a big deal.
