The jokes are nothing new…
The two seasons in Minneapolis are winter and construction
This year’s construction season is just a continuation of last year’s.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says those jokes are not as old as the infrastructure that’s being rebuilt, replaced, or shored up at a cost of $225 million.
And yes, construction season comes with the headaches of stop-and-go traffic.
All.
Summer.
Long.
“If you find yourself our in traffic and see one of these neon jerseys (worn by work crews), give them a thank-you,” Frey said. “Each one of these projects represent the core services that the city needs to be providing on a daily basis, and none of this would be possible without this incredible team.”
The work that they’ll be doing includes repaving nine miles of streets, complete reconstruction of a mile-and-a-half of roads, shoring up bridges, and replacing more than 800 lead water service lines.
And they’re going to work until it’s all done.
That’ll be a lot of thank you’s.
“It’s construction season, man,” said the mayor. “We’re going straight on through the summer, right? As long as mother nature lets us, we’re going to keep going.”
Don’t let anyone fool you, construction season has no opening day or schedule finale.
“I think every year is a continuation of last year’s construction season,” Frey said.
